Shennong's Herbal Classic,also called Bencaojing or Benjing,is one of China’s four classic medicine works.Being the earliest work on Chinese medicine,it was said to be written by Shennong,passed down orally through the generations,and finally compiled into a book in the Eastern Han Dynasty.The book contains medical practices and achievements summarized by a great many medical scientists in the Qin and Han Dynasties.

《神農本草經》,又稱《本草經》或《本經》,中醫四大經典著作之一。作為現存最早的中藥學著作,約起源于神農氏,代代口耳相傳,于東漢時期集結整理成書,是秦漢時期眾多醫學家搜集、總結、整理當時醫藥學經驗成果而形成的專著,是對中國中醫藥的第一次系統總結。書中規定的大部分中藥學理論和配伍規則以及提出的“七情和合”原則,在中國幾千年中醫用藥實踐中發揮了巨大作用,是中醫藥物學理論發展的源頭。在李時珍《本草綱目》出版之前,該書一直被視為最權威的醫書。
《神農本草經》全書分三卷,載藥365種,以三品分類法,分上、中、下三品,文字簡練古樸,成為中藥理論精髓。書中每味藥都按藥名、異名、性味、主治病證、生長環境等分別闡述,大多數為臨床常用藥物,樸實有驗。據當地村醫楊申相介紹,書中所著的許多單行藥,至今仍在民間廣為習用。
