Greg： You may remember Earl from 15 minutes ago.

Greg： So， some people think Earl is my friend， but he’s really not. He’s more like a coworker. I’ve known him since kindergarten. His house is a short walk from mine， but in a much tougher neighborhood. His dad is in Texas， his mom is a depressed[抑郁的] shutin[被關在屋內的人]. And his brother Derrick’s dog Doopie will definitely[肯定地] eat me someday.

Rachel： Oh， my God， yes！

Deep down…somehow， I didn’t think she would. But she did. Rachel’s ashes[骨灰] were scattered[分散] in a park behind her house. Apparently[顯然地]， she ran away from home once and tried to live there. It was this story her aunt told at the funeral[葬禮]. She was trying to become a squirrel. She thought she could turn into one just by being in the forest and wanting it really bad. I guess maybe that’s what Mr. McCarthy meant about someone’s life continuing to unfold[展開]. It was weird to be learning something new about Rachel after she died. But somehow， it was reassuring[安心的] as well.
