most一詞既可用作形容詞，也可用作副詞和名詞。本文結合一些實例對most的基本用法作一概述：

一、形容詞most可用作many, much的最高級，意為“最多的”、“最高程度的”，后面可跟可數名詞的復數形式或不可數名詞；形容詞most可表示“多數的”、“大部分的”、“多半的”等意思，后面可跟可數名詞復數形式。例如：

He wants to get the most votes in the election.

他想在選舉中得到最多的票數。

Who has the most need of help? 誰最需要幫助？

Most children like ice-cream. 大多數孩子喜歡吃冰淇淋。

Most people think so. 大多數人都這么想。

二、most用作副詞時，有下面幾種用法：

1. 常置于兩個音節以上的形容詞或副詞之前，并與其一起構成該詞的最高級形式。例如：

Which lesson is the most difficult in this book?

這本書里哪一課最難？

Li Ying writes (the) most carefully of the three.

三個人中李英寫得最認真。

2. 表示“極”、“很”、“十分”、“非?！钡纫馑?，用來強調或加強語氣。在這種情況下，most前面不用定冠詞the。例如：

This is a most useful book. 這是一本極其有用的書。

Thats most kind of you. 你心腸真好。

We shall most certainly come. 我們一定來。

3. 表示“幾乎”、“差不多”等意思，相當于almost/nearly。例如：

Most everybody talks about it. 幾乎每個人都在談論此事。

She goes to the shop most every day. 她幾乎天天去商店。

三、most用作名詞，其意為“最大量”、“最多數”、“最高額”、“大多數”、“大部分”、“大多數人”。例如：

Do the most you can. 盡你所能去做。

Most of them aren't at home now. 他們中的大多數人現在不在家。

The most are on our side. 大多數人都支持我們。
