從2009年高考題再看beyond的用法

beyond一詞是06年高考英語試題中的熱點,09年高考英語(全國I卷)中再次考查,因此現在我們有必要再次回顧和系統它的含義。

解析:

23.句意為“對不起,夫人。你最好明天來,因為現在已經超過探視時間了?！眀eyond意為“超過、超出”。

26.句意為“我無法理解為什么這樣的事情會發生?！薄癰eyond表示“超越某人的權利、能力、范圍等”,beyond me“超出我所理解的范圍”。

24.句意為“這種新型轎車非常昂貴,超出了收入一般的人的承受能力?！?/p>

29.句意為“他能負責管理這家電腦公司嗎?”答語中的“恐怕”就表明了這個人不行,所以用介詞beyond表明這件事情在其能力之外。

以上高考題都是考查beyond的用法,beyond一詞也是屬于高中英語的高頻詞匯,其用法和含義較為復雜,很容易產生理解上的障礙。本文對beyond 的一些用法淺析,希望能夠幫助同學們更好地掌握其用法。

一.beyond作介詞

1.表示位置,意思是“在……的那一邊;在……之外;在更遠處”。例如:

This account of the wonderful land beyond the Rocky mountains gave him the idea to move there.(人教版高三教科書p49)

落基山那邊神奇的土地使他有了去那兒的念頭。

The sea is beyond that hill.大海在山的那邊。

2.表示時間,其意為“遲于;超過”。例如:

Some shops keep open beyond midnight.有些商店營業到半夜以后。

He never sees beyond the present.他從未看到將來。

3.表示范圍、水平、限度、能力等,意思是“超出;多于;為……所不能及”。在句中常作表語、定語或狀語。

①作表語

Your work is beyond all praise.你的作品叫人贊揚不盡。

The explanation you gave is quite beyond me.

你的解釋我完全不懂。

②作定語

These were matters beyond his understanding as yet.這些事情他那時候還不了解。

She has intelligence beyond the ordinary.她聰明過人。

③作狀語

We succeeded beyond our hopes.我們獲得如此之成功,是我們始料所不及的。

She was really touched beyond words.她確實感動得無法形容。

4.用在否定和疑問句中,意思是“除……之外”。例如:

I know nothing beyond what he told me.除了他告訴我的以外,別的我都不知道。

Is there anything more you can say beyond that?除了那點之外,你還能說些什么嗎?

二、beyond也常作副詞用,主要有下面兩種用法:

1.指時空或正在進行中的活動,意思是“在遠處;向遠處;更遠處”。例如:

If we cross the mountains we may find people living in the valley beyond.如果我們翻過這些大山,我們就可以發現在遠處山谷中生活的人們。

2.表示外加,意思是“此外;以外”。例如:

He told me nothing beyond.此外他沒告訴我什么。

三、beyond也可作名詞用,常有下面三種情況:

1.指“遠處的東西”。例如:

That is a river for small boats expending 30miles back into the beyond.那是一條小船能上行30英里的河流。

2.表示超出普通經驗范圍的某種事物。例如:

What can we poor human beings know of the great beyond?我們可憐的人類能知道來世的什么情況呢?

3.表示遠處的性質或狀態。例如:

His dream of beyond was forgotten in the actual life.他的不著邊際的夢想被現實生活所吞沒。
